9800 vs 9810 – Is the new Torch are real improvement?
With RIM having announced the upcoming release of the new 9810 Blackberry Torch, here at a Unlock Worldwide we want to take a look at what new features this new model brings and whether it is a good improvement over the original 9800 Torch released last year.
The Look:
The new Blackberry Torch 9810 casing will look the same as the previous 9800. The screen size will be the same and it will still have a pull out Qwerty keyboard. This is a positive as the pull out keyboard is a clear differentiator against the
iPhone and the many other Google Android rivals.
The Screen:
The screen size is identical at 3.2 inches. But the resolution has been improved and is now 360×640. Up from 360×480. Pixel density is up to 250ppi. It still carrier the multi-touch input and the optical track-pad.
The Hard Drive:
The internal disk space has been doubled on the 9810 to 8GB which is a very positive move. The RAM has also been increased and it will no come with 768MB of RAM. The 9810 will also have a slot for a Micro SD Card of up to 32MB.
The Engine:
The 9800 comes with a 624MHz processor and runs on BlackBerry OS6. The 9810 will come with a Qualcomm 1.2GHz processor on the Snapdragon chipset and will include a Adreno 205 graphics processor (GPU). An incredible improvement in processing power over the 9800 Torch.
The OS:
The Blackberry Torch 9800 usess RIM’s OS 6. The new 9810 Torch will have the new BlackBerry OS 7 installed. One of the new features on the new software allows you to separate your work data from your private data. So overall the performance on the 9810 should be a big step up.
Camera / Video:
The 9810 Torch has the same 5-megapixel camera as the 9800 (2592×1944 pixels). It includes autofocus and an LED flash, geo-tagging and image stabilization.
The video camera does have a difference. On the 9800 it has VGA camera, and on the 9810 Torch it has 720p HD resolution. That also included face-detection and multi-shot features.
In summary it looks like RIM has made a serious commitment to win back market share with the introduction of the new Blackberry Torch 9810. There is a clear step up in performance and lots of new features that make this new smartphone worth having.
