Well folks, the battle for smartphone domination is heating up again. Today Nokia launched the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, a first for them as both of these smartphones are driven by Microsoft Windows Mango 7.5 OS. This was the main feature at the annual Nokia World event held in London, UK.
Nokia is presenting a new strategy. One that clearly states their intention to own a bigger piece of the pie in the smartphone segment of the telecom industry. RIM BlackBerry®, Apple, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, LG and HTC are sure to be watching this new alliance between Nokia and Microsoft with great care. Nokia has unveiled a new line of innovative phones that are specifically design to compete head to head with the very best. This is a departure from a company that sells 85% of it mobile phone around the world and in developing countries at very competitive rates. They know there are bigger profits to be had in the high-end smartphone segment.
From a design perspective the new Nokia Lumia 800 is stunning, and it has been designed to leverage the best of all social media interaction and internet browsing. The Nokia Lumia 710 is more affordable with less bells and whistles, but still a great affordable smartphone for the masses. It is clear the Nokia is driving innovation throughout its entire portfolio of mobile phones. They are trying to bring compelling new products into the market and hoping that brand loyalty from the millions that have experienced their entry-level phones will translate into upgrades into the new suite of Nokia Lumia mobile devices. And of course the big differentiator is the lack of their own Symbian OS in favour of MS Mango 7.5.
