Blackberry MEP Number

Not to be confused with the Blackberry MEP code (also referred to as the unlock code). The Blackberry MEP number is an identification number placed on all Blackberry handsets by the factory. The MEP is placed on the OS (operating software) and is not visible unless you can gain access to the hidden engineering screens.

MEP stands from mobile equipment personalisation and the number is assigned by RIM to determine what wireless service provider is going to get what batch of handsets being produced at the factory. By reading the MEP we can determine the exact telecom carrier (ie. Movistar, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Digicel, Orange etc) that the mobile handset originated from. This is the method that allows RIM to input information such as language, bandwidth, and branding into the phone’s firmware. MEP numbers are carrier specific and follow this pattern:

MEP-04598-005

The MEP number is often needed when wanting to unlock a Blackberry cellphone. Providing an unlocker with the MEP number from your handset along with the PRD number and the IMEI number will guarantee a 100% correct unlock code.

To access the hidden engineering screens, and the information on its menu, you need to follow specific instructions (very easy) and enter the correct KEY Code into your Blackberry. If the KEY is accepted then the phone will open the hidden menu screens.
